EUFSD Schools Closed - March 16 & March 17, 2020

A Special Message From The Elmsford Union Free School District

Dear Elmsford family,

I participated in a meeting this morning with representatives from the New York State Education Department, the New York State government officials, and superintendents from around the region, to discuss the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). During the meeting, we collectively expressed our concerns the virus poses to our schools.

As a result of our concerns and the many unanswered questions that still exist about the potential spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Elmsford Union Free School District will be closed on Monday, March 16th and Tuesday, March 17th. This includes all school activities, athletic practices, and competitions. This school closure is consistent with the practice of social distancing, which has been recommended by the CDC and medical professionals.

Given that this situation continues to change quickly, we will continue to be in contact with our state and county health departments. Using this guidance and the state of the situation on Tuesday, we will use the information available to re-evaluate the status of the school closing. The health and safety of our students and school community is our top priority and therefore we may need to extend the closure, if necessary.

In the event that an extended school closure is required, our staff is prepared to provide distance learning for our students. We have also devised a plan with our food service provider to support students who may need food during this time and will share the necessary information if this becomes necessary.

We  apologize for any inconvenience that may result in closing our schools. We appreciate your continued support and understanding as we navigate through this challenging time. We remain committed to sharing any new information as it becomes available and will continue to do so on our website at eufsd.org/health.

Sincerely,

Dr. Marc P. Baiocco

Superintendent of Schools
