EUFSD Superintendent Update- March 24, 2020

A Special Message From The Elmsford Union Free School District

Greetings Elmsford family,

I hope my email finds you well!

During Governor Cuomo’s Coronavirus briefing, he informed us that there are an additional 4,790 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the statewide total to 25,665 confirmed cases in New York State. This is a reminder of the widespread impact of this virus, but also reminds us of the importance to follow the recommendations of state and local departments of health. Social distancing is a must during this time, as well as keeping our days balanced with staying healthy and active.

I write to you to provide you with some recent updates:

  1. NYSED 3-8 Assessments: The  New York  State Education  Department (NYSED)  is suspending all NYS  Elementary and Intermediate Level  State Assessments for the remainder of the school year. This suspension of assessments for the remainder of the school year applies to the following State assessments:
  • New York State Grades 3-8 English Language Arts and Mathematics Tests
  • New York State Grade 4 Elementary Level Science Test
  • New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT) in Grades
  • K-12 New York State Alternate Assessment (NYSAA) for students with severe cognitive disabilities in Grades 3-8 and high school

At  this  time, NYSED  is continuing  to closely monitor  the situation and will  provide guidance on the       Regents examinations in the near future.

2.Our facilities remain closed, including our playgrounds and fields, under Governor Cuomo's Executive Order; however, our custodial team and food service providers continue to operate our "grab & go" meal program daily (Mon.-Fri.) from 8:00AM to 11:00AM.

3.We will host a third Chromebook distribution for any family that requires a district-owned device. The distribution will be tomorrow, March 25th from 2:00PM to 4:00PM in the AHHS Cafeteria.

I have not mentioned the question of spring break, as we are still waiting for guidance; however, I am confident that our spring break will occur, as scheduled.

We are aware of how long and challenging the days of distance learning can be and we are working to make the days more manageable. I also remind everyone of the importance of engaging students in learning during this time.

Please stay safe.

Yours truly,

Dr. Marc Baiocco, Superintendent of Schools
