Matthew Evans is a Trustee for the Village of Elmsford in Westchester County, New York since July 2020. He is the Democratic District Leader for Election District 27. Matthew was appointed by County Executive George Latimer and approved by the Board of Legislators as a member of the Westchester County Youth Board. He is the Village Board Liaison to the Highway and Sanitation Department, the Elmsford Public Schools, Recreation Department, Sustainable Westchester, and the Climate Smart Communities Task Force. He has authored resolutions and village laws on issues ranging from climate change and sustainability to transparency in government. 

A fourth generation lifelong Elmsfordian, Matthew started in public service at the age of 19 when he was elected to the Elmsford Board of Education where he served for three terms, rising to both Vice President and President, from 2007- 2016. Additionally, Matthew served on the Westchester-Putnam School Boards Association Board of Directors and was the Area 10 Director for The Caucus of Black School Board Members. He is a former 10+ year camp director and high school baseball coach, and spent over six years in the classroom working with both general education and special education students in grades 2-8. He is currently a Community School Director in Western Queens.

Matthew is trained or certified in PBIS, TCIS, Restorative Practice, The Leader In Me, and Youth Mental Health First Aid. Matthew is a graduate of Empire State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development. He is currently enrolled in the Master of Public Administration & Policy program at American University.
