EUFSD Schools Closed Through March 31, 2020

A Special Message From The Elmsford Union Free School District

Greetings EUFSD family,

I hope my email finds you well following the weekend!

As you know the past week has been very challenging and I thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time.

This afternoon County Executive Latimer issued a declaration of a state of emergency and ordered closing schools for a period of 14 days. The intention of this closure is to help mitigate the spread of the virus in our schools. Under the authority of County Executive Latimer, he may close schools in five day intervals, so it is anticipated that he will extend the order next week.

With this new information, the Elmsford UFSD will be closed through March 31, 2020. However, as the details of the CDC, state and local guidance regarding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continue to emerge, the recommendations are likely to change. Therefore, we should prepare for a closure beyond this date. Information regarding any potential changes to this year’s District calendar will be shared in the near future as our current priority is to focus on providing on-going learning and supporting the well-being of our school community.

Although schools will be closed, it is important to note that distance learning will continue. Our staff remains dedicated to serving the educational needs of our students. In doing so, we have developed the plans outlined below to support student learning while they are at home.

Learning from Home

During the school closure, our teachers and support staff will be available by email. Learning materials will be provided through district email, Talking Points, and Google Classroom to name a few. We recognize that distance learning is not a replacement for face-to-face instruction, but it does provide an opportunity for students to continue to be engaged in their learning during this time of crisis.  If you have any questions related to your child’s home-based learning, please email your child’s teacher and or principal.

Altice USA is offering free internet service for families who may be displaced due to school closure. Any family who may need free internet access may call 866-200-9522 to enroll: Altice USA Brings Free Broadband to K-12 and College Students During Coronavirus Pandemic

School Nutrition Program

We recognize that many students depend on meals provided during school days. Our food service staff will be at our schools beginning on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 and throughout the school closure from 8:00AM to 11:00AM to distribute a “Grab and Go” meal package.

Please be reminded that during the school closures, all athletic and extracurricular activities are canceled. We will open schools on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 from 8:00AM to 11:00AM for any students who may need a Chromebook.  During this time, we will also allow access to our school building for anyone who will need to get learning materials or belongings from our schools.

As I said before, this is a very challenging time and the information and guidance are changing quickly. I thank you for your support and understanding and assure you that together, we will get through this.

Sincerely,

Dr. Marc P. Baiocco

Superintendent of Schools
