2017 Fire Hydrant Flushing Schedule
The Village of Elmsford Water Department will flush all hydrants and water mains in the distribution system starting October 12, 2017. The flushing program will take approximately two weeks to complete.
Work will be conducted during the day and night as designated below. Daytime flushing will take place between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:30 PM. Nighttime flushing will be completed between the hours of 10 PM and 2 AM. Hydrant flushing is a necessary System maintenance procedure.
The flushing operation may cause discoloration of the water as accumulated sediment in the pipes is disturbed and conveyed through the system to hydrant discharge points. Residents are advised not to do laundry during periods of discoloration. This inconvenience should be temporary and should last no more than two to three hours following the flushing. Prior to use, water should be run until it is clear (all water taps should be run). To avoid any inconvenience, check water before doing laundry.
As a general guide, flushing will proceed in the following order, in these areas:
Thursday 10/12 Knollwood Road Extension Area and Woodside Avenue Area. Day Time Flushing.North Side between Main Street and 287 from Winthrop Avenue (Water Shop) to North Evarts Avenue. Night Time Flushing.
Friday 10/13 White Plains Avenue Area. Day Time Flushing. North Side between East Main Street and 287 from North Goodwin to North Stone. Night Time Flushing.
Wednesday 10/18 9A Area North of Main Street Including Vreeland, Paulding Area and Hayes and Haven Streets Area. Night Time Flushing.
Thursday 10/19 Main Street Area between Sprain Parkway Bridge to Knollwood Road and Chester Avenue Area. Night Time Flushing.
Friday 10/20 Hartsdale Road Area from Van Wart to Sprain Parkway Bridge including Fairmont, Prospect Areas. Popular Street Area will not be flushed this year as a new system. Night Time Flushing.
Monday 10/23 South Side between Main Street and Hartsdale Road from South Goodwin to South Hillside Avenue. Night Time Flushing.
Tuesday 10/24 South Side between Main Street and 9A from South Lawn to 9A. Night Time Flushing
Wednesday 10/25 Knob Hill Area, and West Main Street Area including Valley Avenue Area. Day Time Flushing.
Thursday 10/26 Knob Hill Area.
Notices and area signs will be posted in each area prior to flushing.
